P4/5 Mrs Finch

This term has been so busy and pupils have been learning across a range of contexts from Robert Burns to The Victorians! Our trip to the Victorian School in Newhaven, Edinburgh has been a highlight. Pupils enjoyed getting to role play as Victorian school children and luckily they were all very well behaved and avoided the dreaded tawse! They even used slates and a dip pen and ink wells instead of jotters and whiteboards!

In March we had 2 visitors. We had Susan from Stanley Bowling Club to give us a coaching session on bowls. We were surprised by how similar and different it was to 10 pin bowling. Linked to the RHET potato growing competition we had a visit from John who is a tattie expert to tell us all about how important tatties are to Scotland. He told us how farmers grow them and how the tatties then get to our plates. His demonstrations and model farm were fascinating. We then have planted our seed potatoes to compete with P2 and P3/4, and other classes across PKC. Fingers crossed!

During British Science week we developed our scientific enquiry skills by conducting experiment on whether toast will always fall butter side down. We think it does! However pupils had lots of ideas on how to extend this experiment like by changing the height the toast falls from; or the type of bread; or by changing butter to cheese spread. Also we explored buoyancy, floating and sinking with ice, oranges and peeled oranges.
